Continuing on with the theme of my last post, "Moving to our inner Paris." The DTIG is better than a BHAG. Read on if you don't understand these acronyms.

Daunting is a countermeasure against the comfort zone.

Michael Bungay Stanier, How to Begin: Start Doing Something That Matters

Michael Bungay Stanier introduces us to DTIGs in his book, and outlines how how to begin doing something that matters. You know, if it doesn't matter, why do it?

Intrigued? If so, it might be time to set a DTIG - a Daunting Thrilling and Important Goal. A DTIG is a personal, holistic, and transformative goal that brings meaning and purpose to one's life, unlike a BHAG (Big Hairy Audacious Goal) which is a bold, ambitious goal set by organizations or companies.

By setting a DTIG, you'll embark on a journey that challenges you to leave your comfort zone, overcome your FOMO (Fear of Missing Out), and see challenges as opportunities for growth. But this journey won't be easy, and you'll have to make sacrifices along the way. However, the rewards of working strategically will be worth it, as you'll experience, maybe for the first time the joys of missing out (JOMO).

For instance, as a former Air Force officer, I took on the challenge of transforming into a successful real estate agent. The failure rate in real estate by year five is 87%, but with hard work, long hours, and a willingness to learn and face rejections, the rewards can be incredible. I was surprised to find it more fulfilling to help first-time home buyers purchase their dream home than anything I ever did in the Air Force.

You know what I now find even more rewarding? Helping agents cross the five year mark in real estate.

So, what is the DTIG that will drive your success in real estate? Take some time to reflect, and then commit to pursuing it with all you've got. The journey will be challenging, but the rewards will be worth it. You'll not only transform your life, but you'll also be able to help others achieve their goals and dreams.
