... building a connection to your Future Self requires seeing your Future Self as a different person from who you are today.

Benjamin P. Hardy, Be Your Future Self Now

In order to connect with our future selves, it's important to see them as different from who we are today or why connect?

I developed a process for doing this each and every day which I call "Daily Versioning." Think of yourself and the days you live like software versions. It involves recognizing that each day is a new opportunity to improve and grow as a person. As my days alive number increases it reminds me that I am a new version of myself every day I wake up. And that's something to be grateful for!

Lately I find myself putting Lance v21.700 everywhere I would normally put a date. It is as if dating myself this way "triangulates" my location in life. In a similar fashion I learned to find my position on a map with a compass in Boy Scouts and the Air Force Survival School.

By giving each day of your life a unique version number such as "Lance v21.700" which stands for "Lance version 21,700," we are acknowledging that we are constantly changing and evolving, never the same. Which is true, but we don't often think of it that way. Tomorrow I'm going to be Lance v21.701, a different version of who I am today. How different? Well that depends on what I do today.

Here is a simple calculator to determine how many days you have been alive and know which version of yourself you are living today. Days Alive

One of the key elements I suggest for your Daily Versioning process is the practice of setting priorities, tracking progress, and reflecting on setbacks in a Journal. By setting 3 Priorities for the day, you are focusing on what is most important and taking action towards your aspirations. Tracking your progress by logging 3 Wins Daily, helps you to stay motivated and see the progress you have made.

I have found that when I share my 3 Wins Daily with other people it seems to encourage them to look at life in a more positive and meaningful way.

Additionally, the Daily Versioning process includes a simple and quick bedtime meditation, where you can reflect on the things you are grateful for, score your setbacks, and set 3 Aspirations for the next day.

Reflecting on setbacks and scoring them, helps us to learn from our mistakes and improve our response-ability to future challenges.

I score my setbacks on a scale of 1-5 for my emotional response and 1-5 for the elegance and effectiveness of my workarounds.

The bedtime meditation allows us to close each day with a sense of accomplishment and set intentions for the next day. Our subconscious will work on those aspirations over night.

Often doing a bedtime meditation helps calm my mind so that I fall asleep quicker and sounder.

Overall, the Daily Versioning Process is a powerful tool for personal growth and development, as it helps us to see our future selves as different from who we are today, and it provides a clear and consistent framework for setting priorities, tracking progress, and reflecting on setbacks. It is a daily practice that helps us to stay motivated and focused on our journey towards our aspirations and future selves. It empowers us to make progress in our lives and achieve our goals.
